Wilma Elizabeth McDaniel converted to Catholicism soon after arriving in California in 1936. Years later, she was received into the Secular Franciscan Order as a candidate on December 15, 1951 by Fr. Henry Hall, O.F.M. and was professed as a Lay Franciscan on January 18, 1953 by Fr. Loydell J. Marth, O.F.M.
